Hi, I’m Eli, the creator of this site. I’ve worked from home for nearly a decade now, and during that time I’ve learned a little bit about running a business.

If by “running a business” you mean “avoiding a traditional 9-5 at all costs.”

The Free Creative Society is something of a labor of love. I think there’s a lot of people like me out there — folks who never quite took to the idea of working for someone else. My career has had plenty of ups and downs, but I’ve never once had to go and get a “real” job after I decided to start doing this. By hook or by crook, I’ve made this work at home thing happen.

Why Did You Make This Site?

So why develop this site? There’s tons of “make money online” blogs. First, I think I have a unique perspective to share. Second, there’s tons of misinformation and garbage out there (and it’s usually for sale). As someone that’s been around the block a few times in this line of work, the amount of junk content or flat out lies are seriously enough to make you want to puke. Whenever possible, I’ll shed light on the realities of the industry.

I have what some might consider controversial opinions (and what some might consider obvious truths). While I sometimes discuss freelancing on this site, I don’t actually believe that it should be your end-all-be-all career. It’s my opinion that if you’re good enough at something to make it as a freelancer, odds are you have what it takes to develop your own projects, products, and become your own boss — for real.

Full disclosure: at the time of this writing I still take on a few select freelance writing gigs. I may never fully quit freelancing (as long as the project interests me and the pay is worth my time, why not, right?), but the distinction I want to make is that it’s not my career, nor is it my only source of income. And if you’re currently freelancing, it shouldn’t be for you either. Freelancing is a fantastic stepping stone.

What’s in a Name?

The meaning behind the name of the site is actually pretty significant. Here’s what The Free Creative Society is all about:

  • Becoming financially free (as in freedom) by utilizing and monetizing your creative talents
  • Free (as in beer) guides and posts to do so
  • Participation in a community (or society) of like-minded individuals

If all that sounds interesting to you, you’re in the right place. This is a place for writers, artists, graphic designers, web developers, coders, and many others to learn about how to achieve more, earn more money, and become financially self reliant.

How Can I Reach You?

I’m actually quite easy to reach. I have a deep interest in getting to know the people who visit this site. If I can help you out or point you in the right direction, I’m happy to do it, so if you’ve been traditionally shy about reaching out to bloggers with thoughts or questions, now is the time to stop — I genuinely would love to hear from you. Email me at eli@freecreativesociety.com or drop me a line on Skype where my username is FCS-Eli.
